Some promoters here seem to have the ear of the owners, so wonder if anyone can share some relevant intel. Please and thank you.

Owners trying to navigate and see how they can comply - go 100% legit or have a RMT on stuff and try and stay under the radar and hopes it all blows away.
To do this, it would extremely helpful if we, both promotors and us, the customers stay away from explicit details. I cringe when I read about BBBJ etc at certain spas. Sure we all know what is going on, but to brag about it here - that is not helpful.

Girls are hedging their bets but looking at others place to work - outside the EBC Hot zone.

Would it be a total shutdown on April 1st, I doubt it. I am sure many owners have seek legal advice and what comes out of that is anyone guess.

As I said earlier, the whole situation is still very fluid. I certainly do not want to be one of these owners who got "THE LETTER"

There are some spas that are selling. Specifically to mind are Crystal Spa and See You Spa - two holistic spots that are unlikely to make any effort to meet bylaw requirements. There could be others that are being shopped around on the down low - like IU/BU has seen some management changes but not sure how much or what extent.

One lady was telling me recently that one spa had 1 RMT and 3 "normal" girls on staff. By-law came in and sent the 3 non-RMT packing for the day. There might be more and more occurrences of this kind of stuff as deterrent.

Aside from bylaw, an RMT I know has non registered masseuses on staff. Total legit. Sunlife cut off payments for services from her even though her services were claimed by the client.

Most spas in the city don’t get much press at all and I think they like it that way. There’s really only two spas I have gone to in Toronto and lately that has been very rare. Superior in Scarborough but that is for a real massage. AHRC on Bloor but that is because I go way back with Crystal. It has white girls.

Given the bylaw requirement of RMTs I think most spas will only have the option of going bodyrub. One mpa told.me of these spas is going that route. Same mpa that described the attendant bodyrub license as a “whore license” and will look for work elsewhere.

I can see a few things happening. First, popular girls will get jobs in the city or Missisauga/Oakville/Brampton/Pickering pretty easily if they bring their own foot traffic. Second, spas will favour the girls they already have unless there are some dead weight girls to replace. This will make it more difficult for Markham/RH girls to get a job if they don’t have the clientele to follow them. Third, some girls might get work in the city. Unless they have their client contacts it’ll be difficult for the guys to know where they went. It’ll be up to use to spread the word but the mpa’s might want it to be quiet for a while as they’ll likely be jumping around for spas a bit. Last, some will bite the bullet and get the bodyrub license but that is tied to a spa.

The next time you are in a spa take a look at the ceiling. Some never even bothered to drop the sprinkers. I know Ellagance had to spend $6,000 to do that after a fire inspection - and that is by the Property Management and not by the City.

Some spa owners have already managed to have a RMT or Acupunture lic holders in place but the Bylaw need every employee to have lic as well which is quite impossible.

Total shut down ? That happened 20 yrs ago because of some criminal elements such as Motor cycle gangs , human trafficking and drugs were involved.
This time, it's all about zoning and licensing. I spoke to some spa owners and they said they have already seeked legal advice to give a reasonable grace period of 6 months or so to align their businesses with City's bylaw. Giving a short notice of 2-3 weeks to shut down 20-30 businesses? I doubt that will happen. I heard most spas will keep on running with limited service and willing to pay the fines until some settlement is reached.
