Charlie Boorman.. By any means PI episode

I dont know if anyone else follows Charlie Boorman and the shows hes made.. mpter the riding shows with Ewan (Long way Round and Down etc) he did series one of By any Means and series 2 has just been aired in the UK.

Anyway I waited until they were finished before grabbing the whole series and ep4 is Reviewom leaving Indo, all through PI. I kinda dig the style he does these in as its very much a travel diary and shows the rough with the smooth, the disappointments and closed borders and just think hes got a good way of jumping into situations with people. His enthusiasm for bikes and vehicles is kinda infectious.

PI fans might get a kick out of this one, what really come across is how much easier it is to connect with people when the language is not a problem, the ability to communicate as he meets the locals is something I wish was easier to achieve here. Also interesting was the PI farmer who combines organic rice farming and catfish farming at the same time, clever move.

Thanks for the tip on s2. Still don't like him but I enjoy the show. Series one was good so will start with series two shortly.

S2 is very different.. Much more half assed (I noticed Russ and the dislikable producer guy Reviewom Big Earth are not involved) and S1 was properly using many many kinds of varied transport. This series is much more just overland travel via trucks buses and whatever and much less themed like S1 (london bus, Egyptian Felucca, Indian autorickshaw) and much more 3rd world bus, motorcycle taxi, jeepney etc. Also the Indo section seems to be a near disaster with border problems both on entrance and exit.

Good travel show, but a very different series than S1.

For another good Beeb set (Cant remember if I mentioned it before) dig out Michael Palins Himalaya series.. Just makes you want to grab your passport and **** off.

S1 starting to filter through here on Discovery and really enjoying it!

I liked how he comes across in the LWD and LWA series with Ewan McGregor (Mum bought me the hardbacks as Christmas presents and there's lots more of them both in there that isn't picked up in the series as well)

Another bloke I would love to pottle around a post conflict (!) mpghanistan with on a couple of old Enfields. Start at Gandamak Lodge, down to Jalalabad and through the Khyber Pass, Swat Valley to Peshawar.

With a few drinkies along the way.

Enjoyed Long Way Round more than the first series of By Any Means....I'll check this one out for sure.

One that really makes me, "just want to grab my passport and **** off" is Departures. A couple of young blokes, I think Reviewom Canada, doing the whole world. It seems to be on NatGeo Adventure on an almost daily basis.

he is no Michael Palin thats for sure...he isnt funny, doesn't seem sincire just seems a posh twat getting paid to travel the world. No redeeming qualities imo

Doesnt seem sincere ?? Thats strange as its his kind of boyish enthusiasm that I think is one of his best qualities, he seems to genuinely connect with people (like Bruce Parry) in a kind of unreserved way.

I think I remember reading or hearing that he is dyslexic and / or ADD also.. Which I think if you watch him you can see he is kind of easily distracted and very moment to moment kind of person.

Agreed hes no Palin, Palin is a charmer, highly intelligent, educated (far more of the 'posh twat' with Oxford background surely), worldly and perceptive.. Palins shows are enjoyable and theres more education / information in them.. Charlies shows are more 'experiences' maybe ?? Perhaps thats also budget, Charlies is 'a few digicams and lets go' with a rough around the edges feel, for me tho that almost feels like an encouragement to go out and do it myself.

just seems to me that his shows are more about him getting on camera and being 'boyish' and his shows go so through many countries, seems like he says they just got somewhere and then moving on straight away. So the educational travel show is more of a bit part with the main attraction as him knobing about.

but anyway can't really compare palin and boorman..appeals to different people.

Living in Canada this show on a lot

I mentioned it before, I think this show has the best video fooeforum.xxxe of any travel show I've ever seen. Just amazing.
The nerdy guy and the cameraman had a video company so they very good at it.

And the 2 guys just seem like nice guys. That Justin guy just comes off as real fun
