An investigation into illegal activities at massage parlors in Michigan City and Trail Creek has resulted in the arrest of five individuals on prostitution-related charges.
The multi-agency operation, led by the LaPorte County Drug Task Force, Michigan City Police Department, Trail Creek Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, targeted establishments suspected of engaging in illicit practices.
Dubbed “Operation Heavenly Hands,” the investigation involved undercover officers booking massages at the businesses, only to uncover criminal activity instead of routine services. The encounters led to search warrants and arrests, effectively dismantling the operations.
Authorities also worked to provide support for individuals affected by the situation. Police social workers were on hand to connect those involved with victim advocacy services and other resources.
“This investigation demonstrates our commitment to disrupting criminal enterprises while also recognizing that many individuals involved in these operations may be victims of exploitation,” Michigan City Police Chief Marty Corley and Trail Creek Chief Marshal Steve Dick said in a joint statement. “Our priority is not only to hold offenders accountable but also to offer support and resources to those in need.”
Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch commended the law enforcement collaboration, stating, “From the moment our administration became aware of concerns about these establishments, we took swift action. This successful operation demonstrates our commitment to enforcing the law and protecting our community.”
