Don't let them fine you for ANY reason. It's your money. And when they fine you it's like they are forcing work conditions upon you. What you can do to fight it is call a working ladies' only meeting and all of you agree that if they fine any ONE of you that ALL of the ladies will walk out on that shift (or the next one). Your work is difficult. Don't let managers bully you.

I agree in principle in the right to organize themselves if they want to, but generally, any lady wanting to be Norma Rae in the workplace will be soon fired.
Fines? Well, there has to rules and conditions on working in any workplace, otherwise there is chaos.

Because I'm impressed by you referencing Norma Rae, I'm going to debate your reasoning. Just as the usually young women in this industry don't have the knowledge to empower themselves, the business operators don't know much about ethical management. Once the young woman has delivered certain services, she has earned that money. When the spa imposes fines, they have in essence made the young woman deliver that service for free. In short, the business owners or managers have now become pimps in a way they probably didn't intend. A more ethical approach is to a) establish a three strike warning system (with offers to help accommodate certain issues) and THEN simply reduce her hours or take away a shift altogether. While you might argue this latter approach is even more punitive, at least in that instance they aren't causing the spa worker the undue stress of not knowing how much of HER OWN MONEY she'll be able to take home at the end of a shift. Some spas even fine them if she gives extra time to a client. Why? It's her room if there's no other appointment waiting or being denied time. The answer to the why is simply a money grab. Pimping entering once again in a place that was established (in principle) to do away with that kind of exploitation.

A woman should make herself as much in demand as possible - looks, menu, performance etc. Then, she will have more leverage with her employer. Secondly, women should work towards going independent. Work at a spa and build a reputation. After she has a large enough following, go independent and make double what you earn at the spa. Set your own conditions, your own hours, your own boundaries and see only who you want to see.

And ladies have to remember that the spa doesn't make the lady. The lady is the one that makes the spa. No one visits a girl because of the spa. They will see the lady, regardless of which spa she works at. If she is good then even if she goes independent or moves to another spa, her regulars will follow her and adjust in order to see her.

I would never book an ugly, low mileage woman just because she works at a reputable spa.

Take Daniella. She could move onto another spa, but her regulars would travel far to see her again, regardless of the location. She is that good. She is the #1 MPA in the GTA right now. Everyone who sees her raves about how great she is. She doesn't need Premiere in order to do well in this industry. Premiere needs her, not the other way around.

Some massage parlours are too greedy and inhumane. Sometimes mpas get sick or have family emergencies and they have to pay penalties. Sometimes they have to work a full shift to pay for penalties when they couldn't make it . Most of us have "sick days" at work, so if a family member needs to see a dr, no problem, we call sick. These ladies don't have this benefit.

Fines are a necessary evil. Some girls have alot of drama in their lives will come up with a million and one explanations as to why they have to miss a shift be it SO, friend needs a shoulder to cry on, family problem etc. The fact of the matter is the owner has to shoulder the over head for the operation which is considerable. If the girls kept missing shifts, the house loses money because the rooms are not productive. The fines sting, but not overly punitive. The girls will always make it back. If a dental hygienist no showed for her shift, all the patients need to be rescheduled and revenue is lost for that day but over head needs to be paid. Same idea. These girls are in a high paying cash business with virtually no overhead. They are not working in a sweat shop working minimum wage in need of union. Who's the white knight that started this thread.

These poor exploited MPAs should simply escape their pimping spa overlords altogether and work independently. Indy = no pimping right? Total control over your working conditions! So why not just do it that way and keep ALL the money for yourself? Going indy is a great education for MPAs. In most cases they will discover a good spa does way more for them than they ever imagined.

If that's too obvious a solution then how about this?: there are countless different spas in the GTA, so if the working conditions are so terrible at one then why don't they quit to work at another spa that has less fines and rules and allows the girls to come and go as they please and do as they wish?

Most likely it's because they wouldn't rake in anywhere near as much cash, regardless of any fines! Why? Because those spas are dead! Clients don't want to patronize spas that don't have an effective system to create at least some order and dependibility for the service they are selling.

Attractive women with the most basic sense of personal responsibility and reliability can make really significant amounts of money at a well established spa.

All spas have fines to curb the rampant no shows, lates, and poor cleaning habits (the rooms, not the girls) of the girls. It's standard practice in the industry and it's not going anywhere.

Fines are a part of this business and the girls know this.
If they do not show up for their shift or they are late they get fined.
Remember you have made an appointment and your MPA has decided That's the day she feels like sleeping in, so you miss out and the spa misses a door fee.
Some ladies are notorious for being late.
Many work less than 3 days a week and can have as much vacation time as they want.
They complain because they feel entitled and they feel normal work ethics Don,t apply to them.

Industry girls are lazy, so of course they will come late, not show up and do a half ass performance. And I understand the spas point of view. It is what it is.

If sex workers weren't lazy, they wouldn't be sex workers.

I am grateful that there are so many lazy, beautiful women in the GTA with no morals and a me-me attitude. I benefit directly because of it. Thank you sex workers.
