The Criminal Court of Dubai has handed a 3-month jail sentence to a massage card distributor for assaulting a policeman while resisting arrest, Emarat Al Youm reported. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
Public prosecution's investigations revealed that the African man was spotted in the International Village parking lot while putting cards for unlicensed massage services on cars.
A Dubai Police officer, who was on patrol at the time, followed him and tried to arrest him suspecting him of carrying out illegal activities. The African attacked the cop and tried to flee.
In the court, the officer, who was the victim, said he had been asked to secure the parking lot after complaints of valuables being stolen from vehicles were received. He said the accused was seen walking by the cars and looking inside them, as if he wanted to steal something inside it.
When he saw the officer approaching him, the African man tried to escape the parking lot. The officer asked his colleagues for backup, when he saw the man jumping off the parking lot's fence. Another officer hurried to help him. They came face to face with the accused and asked him to calm down.
Suddenly, the man attacked the victim and punched him. After more than 10 minutes of chase, the two officers were able to catch and overpower him.
During the probe, the man confessed to have put up cards for unlicensed services.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 3 months of imprisonment followed by deportation.
