My Canadian Tour Can NOT Include Ontario!

Gentlemen of Ontario:


I am so very sorry to have to advise you that I will not be able visit you in Ontario during my cross country Canadian tour this summer. I am never without my very special companion Missy, my lovely red nose pit bull. As you are possibly aware pit bulls are not welcome or allowed in Ontario unless grandfathered in. Pit bulls are not even allowed to travel through Ontario, even if always on a lead and wearing a muzzle, which would break my heart to do.....But I would if it give me the opportunity to visit Ontario and meet all you wonderful gentlemen. I contacted the head office of the Ontario SPCA to inquire if there were any exemptions which would allow me to be a tourist in Ontario and bring Missy with me.

The also indicated that they would seize any pit bulls and any dog that even looks like a pit bull (unless you can prove otherwise) and fine the owner $10,000 and possible jail.

She looks totally sweet, and I would love to meet her (and you). The anti-pitbull ban is as stupis as it is non-sensical, as there is no such breed to begin with.

Well, if you're ever in Montreal, then please let us know. I'd gladly come and coincide my visit with yours.

That is a bullshit law. I don't think the government should be able to tell you what kind of dog you can have...

I tend to agree there are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners.

Within a breed you can find a wide variety of canine personalities that often reflect owner personality and pet/master relationship. In too many cases, the dog is the master of the relationship and the human appears helpless and unable to control the pet.

Unfortunately, pit bulls may attract a higher proportion of owners who lack the ability to control the relationship and cultivate good canine citizenship.

As a result we see stories like this in the media:

One reason that story's in the paper is that, yes, it did happen and it got reported. The second reason is that the dog involved is a pit bull. So immediately the media jumps on the story.

Had the miniature pinscher attacked a chihuahua, trust me on this, no story.

Not that chihuahuas and miniature pinschers have better press agents, just that pit bulls have often been associated with owners who draw attention to themselves in stupid ways, including perhaps the way they treat their dogs.

None of this, of course, reflects on the lovely Ms. Emily Marie.

Whom we certainly do wish would visit Ontario.

Exactly. As the owner of a huge albeit friendly King Shepherd its funny how many people just assume that my dog is mean. Surprisingly at the park the most aggressive dogs tend to be the small ones while the larger breeds are way more laid back.
On a side note there are a few "pitbulls" that come to the park and they are all sweeties.
