Why does Messenger stop sending messages in the middle of a chat?

All of a sudden, messages sent disappear totally or take several seconds to appear in window.
I have tried re-booting messenger within Mail Plus and sometimes that works, but the problem returns. It is irritating;I am using a brand Asus laptop with Messenger within Mail Plus. I never had this problem with my old desktop when I downloaded Messenger. What's up?
