I love how the conspiracy theorists keep talking about the ”deep state” and how the left government always wants to spy on us. Then when someone points out how the right government is suggesting taking actions indicating that they too might want to spy on us it’s all “no, they do not”.

And…you still didn’t explain why the US Government wants any ownership stake in a publicly traded company. The US doesn’t invest in companies today. Unlike the CPP that does, the US Government only purchases Treasury bills. The reason is twofold: 1) they don’t want the volatility; and 2) they want to keep independence, and avoid conflict of interest, in case they have to fine or punish a company.

I asked you a very specific and pointed question: “why does the US Government want 50% ownership in a company that collects personal data when the US Government doesn’t own similar companies today if not for the purpose of spying? “.

This isn’t about Meta or X or whatever as the US Government has no ownership stake in them. That comparison point is irrelevant.
