Been reading the thread and there's TONS of good advice here. I entered this spa world after coming out of a toxic relationship. Some (not all) women out there are just truly messed up.

The "no strings attached" nature of the spa industry is a feature, not a bug. Judging by the messages here, almost every spa girl is damaged in some way too, and they've clearly developed good disassociation mechanisms from people and emotions to continue doing what they do. No way I'd ever feel comfortable trusting that any perceived feelings they show are real, or even if they are, last very long.

I very much agree the "hourly rental" concept applies here. Just like we don't buy houses or cars in places we aren't going to linger, best to keep what happens in the room (or hotel), in that place and get on with life. Wish everyone here the best, though, no matter what you do!

It’s all lies , this business is full of bullshit , the girls, the bosses and of course, the customers, it’s the lowest form of prostitution, they only have spa friends, who the fuck admits they do this job to real friends and family, bosses , the lowest form of life as far as I’m concerned, they don’t give a fuck about safety or hygiene of anyone working for them ..just the door fee , because that’s all they get

For those guys simping and hoping to have a MPA girlfriend or wife, I think they need to realize that the math is not in their favor. I mean, if you wanted to take a girl out of the game, she could be making $400 untaxed tips a day.... working 4 or 5 days a week - how could you maintain her lifestyle... especially if she is supporting her family overseas. Just have to be realistic. Sure maybe some of you manage to date and have a good relationship, but I doubt she would take such a drop in income just for love...

It is also a little cringe when I hear guys over the phone (although annoying that mpas answer) and do a puppy dog begging routine... "is so and so there, I need to see her pleeeeease"

But to be fair to the hobbyist, there are some who just dont have luck with women and so when they are able to get a girl to do some of this stuff, they fool themselves into thinking its not because of the money.

One cringe moment with MPA was when I was DATY, I could tell she didnt really want to and within thirty seconds started moaning "ohh I cum... you make me cum..." and moved away acting like I was this stud with a tongue. Im not saying I am terrible, in fact I know I am pretty good at DATY, but not that good and wasnt convinced by the act at all....was kind of comical.

As a retired academic currently doing business in a less than intellectually demanding industry (you need smarts and basic reasoning skills and numeracy--but it ain't rocket science), some of you guys remind me of a time when I participated in the equivalent of the Algonquin Roundtable, with quick and insightful discourse humming and crackling with wit and wisdom.

Jesus, better thinking here than amongst our political, media, and business elites who fail us so regularly and predictably. Maybe we should foment a revolution or start a movement in between our touting body slides and the glories of spinners and what not?

Not in anything you actually say, or its relation to the topic at hand, as is your usual modus operandi; but because I can take the opportunity to share some insight to help others here who may be more curious and less judgmental than yourself.

Academics, those who conduct research and teach at Universities, are primarily hired and retained to conduct research and publish their findings. Publish or perish is the general refrain amongst academics. The higher aim is to add to the sum of human understanding. The value in that research, even if it is subsequently proven wrong, is the incremental growth of our reality based knowledge that are the foundations of various academic disciplines. But there are often more practical outcomes as well.

My discipline requires lengthy fieldwork based research in order to achieve a doctorate; usually between one to two years of intensive site based work that includes non literary language acquisition. While carrying out my fieldwork in the South Pacific I was privileged to take part in the testing of the efficacy of various ways of treating mosquito nets to reduce the cases and mortality of endemic malaria. Millions died annually from malaria at that time, and I was happy for the opportunity to take part in the work.

My university was carrying out pioneering research in RNA vaccines, which in the end did not prove to be effective; but the adoption of simply providing and soaking of the nets was a resounding success. Free things are appealing to people in the fourth world, and my village had a near universal take up. Based on preliminary findings, the incidence of malaria for children, those most likely to die from malarial infection and the number of cases dropped by a more than five-fold factor (just checked my fieldnotes, data was based on previous years records and anecdotal evidence from the orderly at the local aid-post). A simple adjunct to my research saved approximately 7 lives while I was there, but I can't attest to the long term numbers in the couple of decades since I left. Research budgets being cut due to bureaucracies and political whims are the bane of the academy.

I will let you draw your own conclusions regarding value, or lack thereof, of my own personal academic work. But let me add this note I just read on facebook the other day: the young man who was christened with my surname, just graduated from his nation's top University with a degree in Medical research, and aims for a career in health services. I take no credit, but some pride in his accomplishments.

In conclusion, my ego is based on accomplishment, and I am valued for, among other things, saving actual lives of my people.

My question to you BasedD: what explains your ego, and what are the bases for your value?

Ahh sorry for being so abrupt at disappearing. I had some emotional entanglements and that fucked me up. I just decided on Friday to settle with the ex and give her almost everything she’s asking for. Gonna shut this past chapter in my life, start a new one. Looking forward to that. I’m not sure how to mix actual dating life with this hobby. I suspect they generally don’t mix, but I want something way more than rental by the hour company.

The girls that we meet in this hobby are generally pretty awesome. I don’t know if I will ever find a woman that even competed with the average gal that I meet doing this hobby. But I think it’s a worthwhile pursuit.

So in the next couple of weeks I need to sign off on the house, the condo, the car, the restaurant. Sift through our belongings and figure out what I will take. Also find a new home. But Feb 1 is the start of a new chapter boys. I am excited and I am scared. I’m old, short and fat. I can only really address one of those three but without emotional turmoil of a divorce, at least I am free to start addressing that now.

How do I start dating again as a 50 yr old? Any suggestions?
