Filo scam (new to me)

Growing up in Chicago you get used to this stuff, Reviewom pick pocket artist (they really are artist), window washers, gamblers, smooth talking homeless people, etc.

These SE Asian scams are sort of complex and try and win you over with being nice to you. Kinda odd.

Always makes me wonder why mall security, mall managers toloerate people like that in their facilities, I'm sure they are aware of them.

Classic scam in Subic is when you are wrapped around some comely lady that you are getting somewhat 'interested' in and are , naturally, feeling benevolent, and some big tw@t sidles up to you and says, 'Hey, I know you Reviewom the forum.'

Thats the start of a week long inebriated haze.

Have no answer for this particula scam.

Similar to the scam discussed in the Money #1 books. Guy says I work at your hotel, gets your name, and some hotel info, then goes talking to your wife like he's your best Reviewiend cause he has your name and hotel. Wife gives him a loan, because it's your buddy and he knows all about you, and scam is complete.

Same thing happened to me one day when I was shopping for gifts on Sukhumvit in BKK. Guy seemed Reviewiendly, so we chatted a bit, then he comes up with the bit about his daughter is going to go to college in SF, and she is just dying to hear more about the place before she goes there, so come to his house for dinner.

At that point, I smelled scam, and told him, in no uncertain terms, to go f*ck off, and don't bother me again.

The Indian guy wearing a turban on lower Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Wish I had a fiver for every time he's told me I am "a lucky man", "how do I know the name of your mother?". Don't know exactly what the scam is but I'd guess at a pickpocket.

A bit negative of me I know; but I believe virtually anyone cold approaching a tourist type individual like this, in countries such as this, do so only for their own gain at our loss

Best tactic for me is just to ignore them completely as other here too suggested. Act as if they're not even there, do not engage in any verbal or physical acknowledgement. I've found if you politely refuse, 80% of the time they suspect weakness so try again, even harder this time round

Not really a scam per se, he is just using it as opening line to sell you a suit. The idea is to get the customer talking... about anything. Everyone sells suits, so you have to do soemthing different. He's going that route..

Used to be a few of these in Hong Kong - my answer to the you are a lucky man was, "yes, I am - I live here!" If they offer to tell you the name of your mother, bet you can tell them their name - it is bound to be Singh
