One of the issue is that spas don't market themselves properly. It's so easy to have a few ideas for improving marketing in January when it's slow. Here are some examples if a spa wants to differentiate itself:

1) Offer first time customers a special discount on DF's. (ie: $30/hh)
2) When a customer is done with their massage, offer them promotional coupons for future visits. (eg: $10 off DF -- put an expiration date on the coupons)
3) Offer bundle fees such as buy 3 massages and get 1 free (could be based on hh/45 minutes/hr).
4) Offer a "New Year" deal like $70 for 90 minutes or $50 for 1 hour -- this will be appeal to budget conscious customers.

Spas should then promote their deals here -- I bet they would drum up more business immediately + get more loyalty heading into rest of winter.

First off.... excellent topic. Kudos!

I think @Lalallala is right and that it is slow as suggested above....what I don't know is if this is a downturn or just a slow period.

I don't have a lot of experience as some but some popular girls ACTIVELY spend time texting and calling regulars during their shift and treat themselves as true independent contractors...while other girls rely on the business to get customers in the door. You may get your favorite MPA because you booked in advanced, but take a listen on the way out and you will hear several sitting around in the break room just waiting due to no demand if the business is not marketing themselves properly like @Christopher Moltisanto mentioned above. Some spas have a following due to a few select MPA's. Other spas have a following of the spa itself and trust that there will be quality employees. I find there is more loyalty to MPA's than to spas and people are more likely to follow MPA's to a new location if it is not that far out of the way.

Post Christmas and the markets flattening out is what I think may be more of a start of a downturn and not just a slow period. Mamasan's need to make their money hence door fees. MP's need to make a steady income but tips are going up due to the times but outpacing what the average joe makes. Additionally I think tips are going up due to less and less foot traffic.

All that to say I think this will lead to some businesses closing and having even more turn over with girls at spas. Where Semi-legit spas had hard lines in the sand drawn prior to do's and don'ts ..... some MP's may be tempted to offer more to get repeat business. Which will also mean FS spas will have MPA's offer more to get more repeat business. As long as all are safe fine....but if people are taking more risks than what is warranted it puts the industry in a bad spot along with customers and MPA's

Haven't been around long enough to know what a "correction" in this market looks like and how many affect customers in the future?

Then there’s the realization from many guys that feel the frequency of their spa visits are out of hand and need to reign in the amount of times they go. Even OG made a resolution to cut down to 7 days a week

But seriously, the survival of most of these places rely on addiction. A 10-20% drop in volume across the board would probably close down half of the spas.
