Hi everyone, over 4 weeks gone now & I'm feeling great - get a bit of stiffness in my back but its strangely higher than where the op was! As for excercies, well as mentioned I went private and it appears that if you go private the NHS don't want to know you, so I've had no physiotherapy! I occasionally do the excercises the private hospital physio told my to do: Lying on my stomach - clenching my buttocks, then lifting my legs (from my hips), then pushing up with my arms & lying on my back then its, pressing my bum into the bed, pressing the back of my knees into the bed, knees up swiveling them from side to side, then still knees up, lifting my bum off the bed. All these are supposed to be done at least 5 times a day 10 times each. I've not been doing them enough though I know hence the stiffness I suppose, but after foolishly moving the bed the week after I got out of hospital, which was painful, I have been taking it quite easy and avoiding any straining. Back to see the consultant a week Thursday and should get the okay to drive again, go back to work and back to a normal routine - roll on!
To anybody who is as petrified about the op like I was, don't be - successes seem to be far greater than failures - you just don't hear about the successes!!! Thanks again to everyone on here who gave me positive comments and support, you genuinely did make it easier for me . Best of luck for all those who are about or already had the op.
Kate, take it easy with the lifting, helping my wife move the bed a week after the op really did set me back, I know it must be really hard for you with two little ones (we have a 3 year old too), I hope your partner has been doing ALL the lifting for you! I hope the basic excercises above can be of use... I'm really getting used to dropping down on my knees now as opposed to bending, my knees aren't too happy about it though!! Take care.
