hi all, is it possible to have a good time on a budget of 50 quid a day
as ive noticed on here that most spend up to 150 a day which is way out of my league.

i worked out on my last holiday that i had 150 aust(roughly 4300 baht) a day to spend and i lived like a king.Some days i bought heaps of clothes and dvds and that went up a bit,but other days i just sat at the beach(100 baht for a spot) and just chilled out

50 pound will get you roughly 3500 baht

I averaged 1000 baht a night for my girl
300-1000 on food-you can eaisly live on less if you want to buy cheaper

and 2000 on drinks.If you want to save money go to the 7-11 and by a 6 pack and drink them before you go out.vodka cruiser were about 50-60 baht from memory,cant remember how much beer was in the cans

you will probably buy a heap of crap when you first get there,but after that take it easy and spend less

3000 baht a day will get you a good time without your hotel room included,and if not LT but ST would be plenty,depends how much u drink per day and how many girls u want to enjoy.

You dont say how long for.. The longer your staying the more you can adjust to a local lifestyle..

I tend to see it as a little low for vacation money.. doable but lean.. Try getting up to about 75 GBP and it will be no problem to act like vacation.

It is possible

1.Eat where the thais eat - noodle or curry tin shacks - cheap and delicious.
2.Drink at beer bars - cheaper than gogo bars. Don`t buy ladydrinks.
3. Negotiate price with the girl before you take her back, that way feelings aren`t hurt by giving her less than she expects and your budget won`t get a shock.
4. Get a cheap apartment room in somewhere like the Nanai Road, rather than an expensive beachfront hotel.
5. Walk or use a motorbike taxi (20-40 baht) to get around.

Depends, If you like to:

- drink alot, then you have little $$ left for bom bom
- drink alittle, then you have more $$ for bom bom
- not drink, then you have alot $$$ for bom bom

It's up to you how you spend and if you have good time.

Good summary, I actually consider this as very good advise, also if you are living abroad, it happens to be in the UK and you are a smoker, please include:

- no smoke, jezzus, you don't want to know what you miss out on wasting too mutt sterling/pound for smoke instead of bom bom

In this case I can see that the OP is from England, but that is not always easy to know as some BM's location are places most people have never heard about: "Some Where Over The Rainbow", "Ascot stables", "socialist banana republic of victoria", "Cali", "on the shitter", "in los.in loom with l/boy", "underwaterworld", "everywhere", etc, etc....................:what:


It would be ok if BM's would respect that this is an international forum and not all can understand the local expressions you have in your country. I hope you also can understand it would be nice for all BM's to be able to answer a questions even if he/she is not from the OP's country.

One trip I might devote as the cheapest possible trip-sleep on the beach, chat up the girls for free and eat out of the bins. Grow a couple of breasts and sample the life of an LB. Might do it on a dare.

I'm also interested in money, then again, who isn't? I'm thinking of living in LOS for maybe a year, and am trying to sort the finances out in terms of how much I'll need. Some of the figures I see quoted make me think LOS is quite expensive 8-10,000 baht a day? I don't think I could do that in England, let alone Thailand!

Would it be perfectly possible to live for a year on, say, £8,000? Obviously I wouldn't be non stop drinking and mongering, more just chilling and relaxing, with the odd LOS "perk" thrown in from time to time. :ytounge:

Well, my uneducated guess is, that spending 8-10,000 baht a day is what you do on holiday, that is, should you not be on low budget and are just having a very good time. That's what I do. Then again, if you would live permanently in LOS, you would maybe not do this, right. Than again, you would also not go out in England and spend 150 pound going out every day. That's all "pocket money" you can "see" yourself spending a day.

I guess if you incl. all the hidden costs of living in the UK, you would get a bit closer to that amount, especially after mortgage, insurance, tax, mabye a car and especially if you also fancy a smoke or a drink.

But I stop it here anyhow, cos it might happen that certain BM's who where born with common sense and calculators in their brains might jump on this thread very soon (that's ment as a compliment

Hi,

The thing with Thailand is that its very easy to spend lots of money especially if around the nightlife.. Sometimes people have this impression that Thailand is dirt cheap but that fact that it is semi developed means you can still get those home comforts that you want but they cost as much or more than they do at home (sat TV, imported fruits, wine, etc)..

Theres been lots of budgeting discussions and posts. but to make it very brief.

Outside Patong.. Living a normal life.. Cooking for yourself.. Not being extravagant.. Living like an old retired person... you could manage for 35 - 40k baht per month. However thats once you know the lie of the land and how to get stuff the right price etc. initially always hurts a but to get set up.

Inside Patong or the touristy areas I think you need to raise that to about 60k baht to live a fairly quiet life, go out once or twice a week (maybe more if your a light drinker.. If I go out I come home at dawn with lots of money gone.. Thats what I like about the nightlife here).. For this you start to live a nice lifestyle, you have what you need, you have some money for meals out, nice wines, some social activity but your not going mad either, your still money concious.

Once that comes to 80k baht per month you can live in Patong in a nice house or apartment, not worry or think about about money as much, be out 5 or so times a week, eat at resturants a lot, butterfly about with lots of girls, generally have a great time and a (un)healthy lifestyle.

Over 80k it depends on the person.. Its much eaiser than you would think to spend a lot.. I spend well over the numbers that I have mentioned and dont mind that one bit, I feel I get my moneys worth and enjoy a level of lifestyle that I simply couldnt get for what I spend back home.. I have my western comforts, and what Asia has to offer.

8k GBP = 550 - 570 depending on rates.. That comes down to under 50 per month and is tight to really cut lose but I am sure it could be done and would still be enjoyable.. Much of that depends on you.. Money runs away fast on drink and women but if your into sports or other things for your time you may be ok.

Me I would do a awful lot to try to add 2k GBP to that 1 year account.. The fun I would have with 60 per month is a LOT higher than the fun I woiuld have with 45.. That little bit makes quite a difference IMHO.
