exactly ub2yoo, 8-10000b a day is what id spend on holiday for 2 weeks.if i was living in los it would be a lot lot less..10000 would get me out 5 nights a week back home......but then id be drinking a lot less too......

I would like to add one more point, although I'm not living in LOS, but just to share experience re money spending.

The first 2 times I went to Thailand about 5-6 years ago was together with my dutch girlfriend at that time. Of cause I paid everything (same as having a BG;-). We traveled all around and had a real good time, good food, lot's of drink, just the whole sha-bang.

Ever since I go alone, I always spend double the amount per trip ...but that might be to the fact that I'm not really into sports

Thanks a lot for that mate. If all goes to plan I'll have more than £8k, so money's not an issue as such - it's more that I'll need a few grand to cover me when I go back to the UK and the more the better!

The plan at the moment is take an early severance package from work and just chill out for a year. I'm slightly concerned I'll go mad when I first get there and spend all my money quickly - I want to spend as much time not working as humanly possible. Ultimately, this is a question that won't get answered until I'm over there and facing temptation on a day to day basis.

I'm planning on renting a no frills apartment for 6 months for maybe 8-10k/month - what i can't work out is the other costs involved like electricity, water, rates, taxes etc. I love the heat so am not bothered about a lot of a/c, which seems to be the biggest drain on electricity and I don't think I'll be using too many appliances, getting satellite etc. I plan to by a bike or moped to get around, so don't need to live in the more expensive areas of town. I don't actually like eating in restaurants, so will buy food from street vendors, and can live without wine. You mention exotic fruits - I'm addicted to bananas - are they cheap and plentiful or rare and expensive?

God, I sound like a right cheap Charlie! I suppose I am, but I'll see the girls right and always stand a round. I'm figuring the majority of my money will go on these 2 areas. There are worse ways of spending your money!

nanas are cheap and plentiful.. I was just thinking of imported items that cost.. I need good fresh coffee beans.. Stuff like that can catch you out..

Sounds like you have the right idea on apartment costs and life.. Watch what your doing and be careful the first few months and you will do ok..

Air con eats up the electric, I found that after about 3 weeks the heat gets tolerable if you just have the fan on. If the room doesnt have a fan its worth buying one, it really makes the difference for a good nights sleep.

Coffee can eat your money too - I think a starbucks coffee costs 2-3 times the price of a thai meal! I need coffee in the morning!

Maybe take one of those filters you put over your cup and make your own quality brew.

I have got a pretty god deal with FERB guesthouse on Nanai Rd for my long term stay in September (close to Soi Sansabai) Perfect location.. 13.000thb pr month low season and 15.000thb high and peak season for a big room with a nice balcony include FREE electric,cable tv, ADSL in the room,tea and coffee.The room have a safe,big fridge and it´s clean daily and fresh towels and linen..

Yes i send him a e-mail and we came into terms about that price.The price are allways higher for a day to day rent and most hotels and guesthouses are willing to give big discount on long term stays..Just e-mail them and ask for a good price for a long term rent.

I think 3500 bt would be enuff if its low season, my room at Y orkshire on Soi San sabai near the action costs 700, a lady costs 1500 initially but long long time if she likes you costs 1000, she then buys thai food, 400 a day and incidentals(water ,sunscreen,condoms, chips etc) 500 and u have 1000 or so for the bar.It will cost u more at the start but pull your Head (reins) in and you will get by....

I BUDGET FOR £100 =7000 bhat a day when i am in los

every day and every place varies

for instance a good day in bangkok or pattaya might cost you around 9,000 bhat

whereas i agree with IJ you can have a good time in patong for around 6,000 bhat a day and in huahin for around 5,000 bhat

so it roughly averages out at around 7,000 bhat a day so if i am coming for say 16 days like my last trip i will bring £1600 in travelers cheques and maybe an extra £250 in cash in case of extra unforseen expenses also make sure i have some money in my account for things like medical bills my ATM card works in thai bank machines.

1000 for long, long time? Still wondering what some people pay.... (sorry no offence mean). If you have a nice lady who like you at least a little she will stay for much less with you.
400 for thai food if the lady buy it? Easy possible for less then 200...

Think you can find a nice room for 6000 bath/month long term.
